Win One, Lose One

Graham's Varsity teams split with Northwood tonight. The girls (11-1, 7-0) posted a 63-43 win, while the boys (8-5, 6-1) lost 74-61. Northwood's JV boys won 67-59.
In the girls game, Graham's tenacious defense held Northwood to 6 1st quarter points as Graham led 17-6 after 1 quarter, Graham widened the gap to 29 points as they led at the half 37-18. Beth Miller scored 15 of her game-high 20 points the 1st half.
Northwood cut the gap to 13 points with 5 minutes left in the game as Graham rested their starters, then guard Beth Miller took over, dribbling away the rest of the clock while hitting 5 of 6 free throws to seal the win.
Kaila Lea, Courdne Miles and Logan Apple both contributed 9 points each, while Kiki Allen scored 8.
Rashami Vanhook led Northwood with 16 points while Casey Norris tossed in 12.
In the boys game, Graham came out ice-cold, hitting only 3 of 11 shots the 1st quarter and fell into a hole they could not climb out of. Northwood led 21-7 after 1 quarter.
Graham played Northwood even the 2nd quarter and Northwood led 37-23 at the half.
Graham was able to cut the lead down to 4 points at 40-36 with 5:15 left in the 3rd quarter, but the Chargers put together a 19-6 run to end the quarter and led 59-42 after 3 periods of play. Graham was only able to get back within 11 points the 4th quarter, as Northwood hit 9 of 14 free throws to hold off the Red Devils.
Marquise Ricmond led Graham with 14 points and 20 rebounds. Michael Wiiten added 14 points, while Nolan Solis had 10.
For Northwood, Ridge Smith hit for 19 points, while Harold Baldwin had 14, and Terrence Hackney added 11. |
