Red Devils Smash Jaguars
February 27, 2009 By Denis Vass of Graham High School
The Lady Red Devils (26-3) continued their torrid post-season run tonight, as they scored above the 70 point total for the third consecituve game, blasting past visiting Farmville Central 79-62. Graham hosts the Sectional Final tomorrow night against Eastern Guilford. This will feature a fired-up Wildcat team who Graham defeated in the consolation game in December's Don Amos/Graham Boosters Inviatational Basketball Tournament.
The Jaguars got into a track meet the first half with Graham, as both teams spent a tremendous amount of energy sprinting 80 feet nearly every second. Graham won the meet, as they connected on 18 of their shots compared to 9 for Farmville Central. Graham was aided by 2 runs, one in the 1st quarter when they posted a 10-0 run to lead 22-7, and the second 9-0 run the second quarter to push their lead to 18 points at 31-13 before Gecora Brown hit a basket to temporarily slow the Red Devils. Graham sprinted to a 41-22 half time lead.
Graham's huge first half output proved to be the difference in the game as both teams played the second half nearly even. Farmville Central put together several runs, but Graham answered them all. It was mainly too little too late. The Red Devils converted 13 of 16 free throw shots the final quarter as the Jaguars elected to foul in an attempt to catch the Red Devils.
Graham was led by Kiki Allen, who had another outstanding offensive game, pouring in 24 points. Allen connected on 3 of Graham's 5 three point baskets. Logan Apple supplied the other two. Allen added 5 assists and 4 steals. Beth Miller scored 18 points, and had 9 assists. Courdne Miles trimmed the nets for 13 points, while grabbing 8 rebounds.
Farmville Central was led by Gecora Brown who had 24 points. Kinezsha Faircloth added 11 points, while Crystal Smith had 10. |
